Dietary information, not medical advice
GutStamp provides general dietary information based on published FODMAP research. It is not medical advice, and it does not diagnose, treat, or cure IBS or any other condition.
Nothing in the app is a clinical assessment of you. Verdicts, safe-serve figures, swap suggestions, the stacking meter, your tolerance profile and your challenge results are all general information applied to what you entered. They are not a diagnosis, a prescription, or a treatment plan, and they are not a substitute for advice from your doctor or an accredited practising dietitian.
Not for allergy or anaphylaxis decisions
This app is not for allergy or anaphylaxis safety decisions. Always confirm ingredients directly with restaurant staff or product manufacturers if you have an allergy.
GutStamp estimates FODMAP content. It does not detect allergens, it does not detect gluten for coeliac disease, and it cannot tell you whether a food is safe for anyone with an allergy or intolerance outside the FODMAP groups it covers. A "low" verdict says nothing about allergen risk.
See a doctor about these symptoms
If you experience any of the following, see a doctor promptly — this app can't assess that:
- Bleeding
- Unintended weight loss
- Fever
- Waking pain
These can be signs of a condition that needs medical assessment, and a low-FODMAP diet is not the right response to them. If your symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek urgent medical care. In an emergency in Australia or New Zealand, call 000 or 111.
Do not start, stop or change any medication because of anything the app tells you.
Talk to a professional before you start
A low-FODMAP diet is an elimination diet. It narrows what you eat, and it is not appropriate for everyone. Speak with your doctor or an accredited practising dietitian before you begin, particularly if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have or have had an eating disorder or disordered eating, if you are underweight, if you have diabetes or another condition that affects what you can eat, or if you are already on a restricted diet.
Long-term dietary restriction, including extended elimination phases, should be supervised by a qualified healthcare professional. The elimination phase in GutStamp is designed to be a limited period, not a permanent way of eating, and the app will prompt you to move on.
What a scan can and cannot tell you
A scan is an estimate produced from a photograph or a description. It can misread a photo, miss an ingredient that is not visible or not printed on a label, misjudge a portion, or have no data for a food at all. Menu results are based on how a dish is typically prepared, not on what a particular kitchen actually does — confirm with staff.
Food composition figures come from published, peer-reviewed research. Published values vary between studies, growing regions, ripeness and preparation methods, so treat every figure as an estimate. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by any university, research group or health organisation.
Your results are evidence, not a diagnosis
A challenge result tells you how you responded to one food, on one occasion, at the doses the program used. It is useful evidence about your own tolerance. It is not a diagnosis of an intolerance, and it does not mean you will react the same way every time. Symptoms have many causes, and stress, sleep, illness, medication and the rest of the day's food all affect them.
If your results do not make sense, or your symptoms are not improving, see a doctor or dietitian rather than restricting further on your own.
